LAGOS STATE KICKS_OFF COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL PROGRAMME
– Pilot begins with Government College Lagos and 11 other senior secondary schools.
The administration of Governor Babajide Olusola SanwoOlu has commenced the fit_for_purpose educational system in Lagos State with the establishment of a comprehensive school system in 12 senior secondary schools across the State.
Speaking on the commencement of the programme, the honourable commissioner for education Mrs Folasade Adefisayo revealed that the pilot programme, which commenced in 12 schools across the six education districts and with 30 students per class room, has a robust curriculum design that has been developed to manage the students from Beginner stage to Mastery level.
According to her, the Government is investing in the programme to give the students an edge by providing a fit_for_purpose and quality education initiative. The initiative is expected to reduce the number of school dropouts due to their inability to cope with academic work.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, declared that the introduction of the comprehensive programme is an initiative of government to inculcate skill acquisition in learning and empowering the students with various entrepreneurial courses,
Adding that the initiative will enable them to become independent and productive in the future.
Mrs Cicelia Okeowo, the Principal of Government College Lagos urged students on the pilot programme to maximize the opportunities and huge investments committed by the government into the programme and consider their involvement as a step to greater exploits and achievements.
The school programme has broad subject categories which includes Skills training in Agriculture, Technology and Digital skills, Beauty and Events , Building and Construction, Media and Entertainment, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship, Communication, Marketing and Sales as well as Digital Literacy among others.
As part of its role towards supporting every initiative that promotes the advancement of GCL, GCLOBA was well represented at the flag off event by Osagie Odiase and Rtd Admiral Leye Jaiyeola.
