GCL Spotless boys advance to 2018 Principal Cup Semi-Finals

It was a thrilling encounter on Monday 26th of June as the Spotless Boys of took to the pitch at Cappa Stadium Oshodi, against Dairy Farm Secondary School football team in the Quarter Finals of the 2018 Lagos state GTB Principal’s cup.

The GCL team progressed to the Quarter finals after defeating Ikotun Secondary School, and Eko Boys High School to top the group.

The team had prepared and trained vigorously for the much awaited Quarter Finals game by playing friendly matches against selected teams which include YabaTech football team – a much bigger and more experienced opponent.

The Quarter Finals game which kicked off by 1:30pm following the National Anthem, and School Anthem of Dairy Farm Secondary School followed by the School Anthem of GCL was a thrilling encounter.

The first half went tactical with both teams playing each other like a Chess game. It was a close half as both teams played more passes in the midfield and were cautious not to make any mistakes. As both teams went for the halftime break, the scoreline remained goalless.

At the return from the break, GCL team attempted a shot at goal right from the center circle, which went over the woodwork. The second half progressed the same way the first half went, as both teams were careful not to concede, but this time the Spotless Boys of GCL showed more pace and were more purposeful and adventurous with passes and direct shots at goal.

The direct play eventually paid off as the Spotless Boys of GCL through Suliamon Roheeb ( Jersey number 9 for GCL) pounced on to the ball courtesy a through-pass resulting from a freekick and beat the goalkeeper with a well taken shot, to hand GCL the lead.

With 5 minutes to go and Dairy Farm team searching for the equaliser, a quick counter move from the Spotless Boys of GCL ended with the ball hitting the upright, but Adamson Taofeek ( Jersey number 7) was on hand to hit the rebound into back of the net to give GCL a two (2) goal lead.

From that moment, it was certain that GCL will progress into the Semi-Finals, as the Diary Farm team tried unsuccessfully to reduce the margin. The referee’s whistle signaling the end of the match confirmed GCL’s place in the Semi-Finals where they meet an opponent yet to be named.
